Chicago Fire FC set to face D.C. United amid lineup changes

Chicago Fire FC plays its second game of a three-game homestand against D.C. United, one of the club’s oldest rivals. The match, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT, will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass and locally on 890 WLS-AM (English) and WRTO 1200 AM (Spanish).

Following their recent match against Inter Miami CF at Soldier Field, Chicago Fire faces a D.C. United squad that recently defeated Toronto FC 3-1 at BMO Field. This encounter marks the 71st all-time meeting between the two teams. Since their first match in 1998, Chicago Fire holds an all-time regular season record of 23-26-21 against D.C. United. Notably, since the 2015 season, Chicago has remained undefeated at home against D.C., with a record of 3-0-6.

Frank Klopas has made four changes to the lineup that faced Inter Miami CF on August 31. Gastón Giménez makes his 13th start of the season and his 15th across all competitions in 2024. He wears the captain’s armband for the ninth consecutive match and marks his 99th start overall for Chicago Fire.

Chris Brady starts for the 27th time in the current MLS regular season, having missed only one game due to international duty. Hugo Cuypers continues his streak by starting his 28th match of the regular season, making him the only player to start every MLS match for Chicago Fire in 2024. Cuypers leads the team with ten goals this season.

Maren Haile-Selassie starts his 12th straight regular-season match and his 15th straight match across all competitions for Chicago Fire. Haile-Selassie’s five goals and seven assists tie him with Cuypers in goal contributions so far this year.

Andrew Gutman records his 100th career MLS start and his 11th start as a member of his hometown club. Brian Gutiérrez starts his 23rd match of the regular season and his 25th across all competitions for Chicago Fire. Gutiérrez’s ten career goals tie him with former player Harry Shipp for most goals by a Homegrown Player in club history.

Arnaud Souquet starts his 11th straight match, having accumulated a total of seventeen starts across all competitions in 2024, including two Leagues Cup matches. Carlos Terán returns to the starting lineup after coming off as a substitute against Inter Miami; he starts his thirteenth game of the regular season.

Wyatt Omsberg makes his sixth start of the current MLS regular season for Chicago Fire, while Allan Arigoni returns to the starting lineup after substituting against Inter Miami; Arigoni makes his twenty-fifth start in twenty-six games this year.

Kellyn Acosta also returns to the starting eleven, marking his twenty-third start for Chicago Fire this season.

Unavailable players include Rafael Czichos (yellow card accumulation), Chase Gasper (leg injury), Ariel Lassiter (international duty), Mauricio Pineda (leg injury), and Georgios Koutsias (international duty).
