Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has been named a 2024 WNBA Peak Performer in rebounds after finishing the regular season with a league-best 13.1 rebounds per game.
This marks the eighth time in franchise history that a Sky player has won a Peak Performer Award, and only the second time for rebounds, following Sylvia Fowles in 2013.
In her rookie season, Reese led the league in offensive rebounds per game at 5.1. Her average of 5.1 offensive rebounds per game is the second-highest of all time, and her total of 13.1 rebounds per game is the highest single-season average in WNBA history. Reese also holds the record for most offensive rebounds in a single season with 172 and ranks second all-time in total single-season rebounds with 446, trailing only A’ja Wilson. She is tied with Elena Delle Donne for sixth place on the Sky’s all-time franchise offensive rebounding list and stands at No. 14 in total franchise rebounds.
Reese is one of only two players in WNBA history to record multiple games with over 20 rebounds in a single season. She achieved this feat by recording 20 rebounds on August 18 against Phoenix, August 23 against Connecticut, and tying Sylvia Fowles' franchise record with 22 rebounds against Las Vegas on August 25. On September 6, Reese surpassed Tina Charles for second place on the WNBA's all-time rookie defensive rebounding list with a total of 274 defensive rebounds this season and also passed Charles for first place on the rookie overall rebounding list with a total of 399.
Throughout her first year, Reese played in just 34 games but finished under ten rebounds only five times. Her streak of securing ten or more rebounds over twenty-eight consecutive games set a new WNBA record, doubling Candace Parker's previous record from the period between 2009-10.
The LSU alum became the fastest player to reach four hundred career rebounds within thirty-two games and made history as the first player to achieve multiple instances of recording both ten or more offensive and defensive rebounds within one game.
