Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), in partnership with Next Showcase USA, have announced the 15 finalists for the 2024 DCASE Chicago Made Music Showcase Finale. The event is scheduled for October 19 at the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater.
The showcase will feature performances by the finalists before a live audience and a panel of industry experts. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000 along with networking and performing opportunities. Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasized the city's support for local artists, stating, "We want all of Chicago’s aspiring artists to know that the City has their back."
DCASE Commissioner Clinée Hedspeth highlighted the significance of this initiative, saying, "The Chicago Made Music Showcase is an invaluable launching pad for our city’s musicians and bands." This year, over 150 musicians auditioned for a chance to perform at the showcase.
Chicago Made is a program operated by DCASE that supports local creatives in music, film, and other creative industries. Last year's showcase saw Jasmine Marthel win the grand prize, while finalist Jamiah Roger secured a record deal with Delmark Records.
Next Showcase USA provides educational and motivational platforms for artists aiming for success. More information about their initiatives can be found on their website.
