Gregg Berhalter has been appointed as the Director of Football and Head Coach for the Chicago Fire. In an open letter to fans, Berhalter expressed his excitement about taking on this new role and emphasized his commitment to building a competitive team that reflects the dedication of its supporters.
Berhalter highlighted his long-standing connection with Major League Soccer (MLS) as a player, coach, and director. He acknowledged the passionate fanbase in Chicago and recognized the challenge of playing in front of a packed stadium. "Coming into this role, my top priority is to build a team that matches your dedication," he stated.
The new head coach outlined his vision for the club, aiming for sustained success both on and off the field. "We will create an identity on and off the field that you will be proud of and ensure that the Fire are competitive year in and year out," Berhalter assured fans.
A significant focus will be placed on developing local talent through the club's academy system. Berhalter stressed the importance of nurturing homegrown players who embody Chicago's values. Additionally, he mentioned plans to recruit players who align with community values.
The upcoming Endeavor Health Performance Center is expected to play a crucial role in developing young talent and enhancing first-team performance. The facility is set to open by January.
Berhalter also emphasized the essential role of fans in supporting the team. "Our fans and supporters are the heart and soul of this Club," he said, inviting them to join him in ushering in a new era for Chicago Fire.
