Chicago Red Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has been recognized with her third National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Deloitte Impact Save of the Week honor for 2024. The league made this announcement today, acknowledging Naeher's crucial save during Chicago's match against the Washington Spirit on October 20.
In the closing minutes of the game, Naeher executed a remarkable save following an attack initiated by Washington forward Trinity Rodman. Despite Chicago's defense being unable to block Rodman's shot, Naeher managed to deflect the ball over the crossbar, preventing a goal and maintaining the scoreline. Ultimately, Chicago lost the match 2-0.
This latest accolade marks Naeher's third Save of the Week award this season, adding to her previous wins in Weeks 1 and 15. With ten Save of the Week honors in total, she is now tied for third-most in NWSL history. The Red Stars have secured six weekly awards this season, including contributions from Tatumn Milazzo and Natalia Kuikka.
Naeher has also rejoined her national team duties with teammate Mallory Swanson and the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT). She was called up on October 18 after winning gold at the Paris Olympics earlier this year. During the international break, Naeher will participate in friendly matches against Iceland and Argentina scheduled for later this month.
The Red Stars will return to action on November 3 at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. They are set to face Kansas City Current as they conclude their regular season games.
