Mike Quigley emphasizes protection of democracy and reproductive rights

Mike Quigley, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 5th district since 2009, shared his thoughts on democracy and social issues through a series of tweets on November 15, 2024. Quigley has been a prominent political figure since replacing Rahm Emanuel in Congress and previously served on the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Born in Indianapolis and currently residing in Chicago, Quigley is an alumnus of Roosevelt University and Loyola University.

On November 15, 2024, Mike Quigley emphasized the importance of democratic values by stating that "Our Democracy sets us apart from authoritarian states. We can and will protect our democratic values from those who seek to do away with them."

Later that day, he warned against the dangers posed by autocratic leaders with the message "When an autocrat tells you they’re going to be an autocrat, believe them."

In another tweet posted on November 15, 2024, Quigley addressed concerns about reproductive rights by reassuring citizens that "Right now, countless Americans are afraid their reproductive rights will be ripped away. Rest assured, Illinois will always be a safe-haven to access the care you need."
