Rush Medical College recognizes outstanding alumni contributions with 2024 awards

The Rush Medical College Alumni Association has announced the recipients of its 2024 alumni awards, which are presented biennially to honor significant contributions to the college and the field of medicine. The awards acknowledge accomplishments in medical research, clinical excellence, leadership, and service.

Dr. Brett Levine received the Distinguished Alumni Award for Medical Research and Education. Dr. Levine's career began at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital as an orthopedic technician before he pursued a path in orthopedic surgery. He earned a Presidential Scholarship to American University, graduating with honors in chemistry in 1995. After further education at Georgetown University School of Medicine and New York University Langone Orthopedic Hospital, Dr. Levine joined Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush focusing on hip and knee arthroplasty.

Dr. Donald M. Jensen was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Clinical Excellence. Dr. Jensen is recognized for his work as Richard B. Capps Emeritus Professor of Medicine and his role in establishing Rush's liver transplant program alongside Dr. James Williams in 1986—one of the oldest programs in the country.

The Distinguished Alumni Award of Leadership, Service and Innovation went to Dr. Robert A. Winn, director of VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. He leads efforts on health equity in cancer care through research that addresses disparities.

Finally, Dr. LaMenta S. Conway was honored with the Campbell Alumni Service Award for her extensive work including serving as deputy chief of medicine for Illinois Department of Corrections where she oversees medical care for incarcerated individuals.

These awards highlight each recipient's dedication to advancing their respective fields while contributing significantly to community service and education within medicine.
