Chicago Fire FC has announced the signing of midfielder David Poreba to an MLS contract. The agreement secures Poreba with the team through the 2025 season, with options extending to 2026, 2027, and 2028.
Poreba's signing marks a milestone as he becomes the first player from Chicago Fire FC II to join the First Team under an MLS contract. This follows his recognition as the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro MVP after a remarkable season.
"David has earned this opportunity after an impressive season with Chicago Fire FC II, where he received MLS NEXT Pro MVP and Golden Boot honors," stated Gregg Berhalter, Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach. "David is a very promising young player with strong leadership qualities, and we look forward to seeing his continued development at the next level."
The Lake Zurich native led as captain for Chicago Fire II during the 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season. He achieved notable success by securing both MVP and Golden Boot awards, along with being named in the Best XI team. Poreba scored a league-leading 18 goals and provided six assists across 28 matches.
Poreba is also recognized for being the first player from Fire II to receive multiple annual awards in MLS NEXT Pro history. His previous involvement with the First Team included four Short-Term Agreements during regular season games and Leagues Cup in 2024.
Before returning to Chicago, Poreba was loaned from Polish club Stal Mielec in January. In 2023, he played predominantly for Crown Legacy, starting in most of their matches. During his time at Crown Legacy, he significantly increased his goal tally compared to previous seasons.
Poreba's football journey began at an amateur level with the Chicago Fire Academy before moving on to other clubs including Stal Mielec's reserve team and Crown Legacy FC.
