The Chicago Sky secured the third overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft during the draft lottery held in Bristol, Connecticut. The Dallas Wings were awarded the first overall pick, followed by the Los Angeles Sparks with the second, and the Washington Mystics with the fourth.
Chicago Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca expressed optimism about their position: “We are ecstatic to receive another top-four draft pick, along with our No. 10 pick, to build on our roster and create a winning franchise.” He added that they look forward to adding "exceptional new stars" to their team on draft night in April.
The Sky now hold two first-round picks for 2025, including the third and tenth overall selections. The latter was acquired from Connecticut through a trade during the 2024 season.
Historically, the Sky have picked at No. 3 five times before. Notable players selected include Kamilla Cardoso (2024), Diamond DeShields (2018), Courtney Vandersloot (2011), Kristi Toliver (2009), and Armintie Herrington (2007). Cardoso made it to the 2024 All-Rookie team, while DeShields ranks tenth in points for the team. Vandersloot is notable for being second in points and leading in assists, steals, and minutes played for Chicago. Both DeShields and Vandersloot contributed significantly to Chicago's first WNBA Championship win in 2021.
This marks Chicago's return to the draft lottery since 2019. The lottery odds were based on cumulative records from 2023 and 2024 of teams that missed playoffs last year. With a combined record of 31-49 over these years, Chicago had a 22.7% chance of securing the top pick prior to swapping positions with Dallas.
The upcoming WNBA Draft will take place on Monday, April 14.
