Chicago Fire FC has announced the transfer of defender Tobias Salquist to FC Nordsjaelland, a team in the Danish Superliga. This decision opens up an international slot and a senior roster spot for the club. The terms of the transfer have not been disclosed.
“We’d like to thank Tobias for his contributions to the Fire,” stated Gregg Berhalter, Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach. “Following discussions with him and his representatives, we agreed that a return to Europe would be best for both the player and the Club. We wish Tobias and his family all the best for the future.”
Salquist, aged 29, joined Chicago Fire FC on January 14, 2024, from Silkeborg IF in Denmark's Superliga where he had played for three years. During his time with Chicago Fire FC, he made 14 MLS regular season appearances with ten starts and registered one assist. He also participated in two Leagues Cup 2024 matches.
Before joining Chicago Fire FC, Salquist began his career at Silkeborg after moving from FC Midtjylland as a U-17 player in 2011. He signed a three-year contract with Silkeborg in 2015. His career included a loan spell at Fjolnir in Iceland (2016-2017), followed by stints at Waasland-Beveren in Belgium (2018-2019), Lillestrom SK in Norway (2019-2020), and Hobro IK in Denmark (2020-2021) before returning to Silkeborg in 2021.
The transaction marks another step in Salquist's professional journey as he returns to European football with FC Nordsjaelland.
