Chicago Fire FC has announced the acquisition of defender Sam Rogers from Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK. Rogers is contracted with the team through 2026, with options to extend in 2027 and 2028.
"Reinforcing the backline has been a priority for us during this transfer window, and Sam will bring added competition and depth to the center back position," said Gregg Berhalter, Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach. "We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to his contributions to the team."
Rogers, who is 25 years old, has accumulated 167 appearances in various competitions across the United States and Europe. Originating from Seattle, Washington, he started his professional journey in 2017 with Tacoma Defiance, previously known as Seattle Sounders FC 2. During his tenure from 2017-20, he played in 64 matches in the USL Championship before moving to Oklahoma City Energy FC in 2021.
In Norway, Rogers initially joined HamKam on loan in 2021 before transferring permanently in January 2022. He later played for Rosenborg, Lillestrøm, and Aalesund, featuring in a total of 47 Eliteserien matches and participating in 29 OBOS-ligaen contests.
On an international level, Rogers debuted with the U.S. Men’s National Team on January 29, 2023, during a friendly match against Colombia. He also holds four caps with the U.S. U-20 Men’s Youth National Team and contributed to their victory at the 2018 CONCACAF U-20 Championship.
