Kingdom Baptist Church in Austin is on the path to becoming an official Chicago landmark. The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has recommended this designation to the City Council.

The church, located at 301 N. Central Ave., was designed by Nelson Max Dunning and constructed in phases between 1925 and 1943. It features a Neoclassical and Art Deco style with a red brick facade and Corinthian columns.

Originally, the building was home to the Fifteenth Church of Christ, Scientist until around 1972 when it was acquired by Kingdom Baptist Church. The current congregation has requested this landmark status.

If approved, the designation would ensure protection for the building's exterior elevations.
