A proposal to sell 0.6 acres of vacant city land for the construction of a community arts center in East Garfield Park was introduced to the City Council by Mayor Brandon Johnson. The proposed 12,530-square-foot facility would be developed by Firebird Community Arts at 3312-44 W. Lake St.
The $6.7 million project aims to offer instruction in glass blowing, ceramics, and other creative activities for up to 100 young artists. Under the proposal, each of the nine city lots would be sold for $1.
Mayor Johnson stated that this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement through art and creativity.
