Chicago Fire FC has announced the acquisition of winger Jonathan Bamba as a Designated Player from Spanish club Celta de Vigo. The transfer is pending the completion of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Bamba's contract extends through the 2027 MLS season, with an option for 2028.
Gregg Berhalter, Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach, expressed enthusiasm about Bamba joining the team. "We’re thrilled to welcome Jonathan to the Chicago Fire. He has competed in two of Europe’s top leagues and played an instrumental role in Lille’s Ligue 1 title run," Berhalter said. He highlighted Bamba's experience and skills as valuable assets for building a strong team.

At 28 years old, Bamba brings significant experience from European competitions, having participated in 338 matches across France, Belgium, and Spain. His career achievements include scoring 50 goals and providing 53 assists, alongside winning three major trophies: the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, the 2021-22 French Super Cup, and the 2020-21 Ligue 1 championship.
Bamba began his professional journey with Saint-Étienne in France before moving on loan to various clubs including Paris FC, Sint-Truiden, and Angers SCO. He later joined LOSC Lille where he made notable contributions over 200 matches. At Celta de Vigo since July 2023, Bamba appeared in La Liga and Copa del Rey matches.
Born in Alfortville, France, Bamba holds dual citizenship with France and Ivory Coast. After representing France at youth levels, he joined the Ivory Coast National Team for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2023.
