FOIA Request to Illinois Secretary of State Regarding Documentation and Details of Contractual Obligations on February 19, 2025.

In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Chicago City Wire have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Secretary of State. The request, dated February 19, 2025, seeks documentation and details regarding the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between state agencies and their vendors during fiscal years 2023 through 2025.

Specifically, we are seeking records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. If the scope of this request is deemed too broad or burdensome, we have suggested limiting this request to contracts executed or modified in fiscal year 2025.

As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to public records is essential for us. Therefore, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

We are also members of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation that assists news media companies in investigating state and federal governmental agencies using Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. This partnership aids our mission to inform the American electorate by shedding light on government actions.
