Chicago Fire FC's homegrown midfielder, Brian Gutiérrez, has been recognized in the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 1. This recognition follows his performance during a 4-2 loss against Columbus Crew, where he scored both goals for Chicago Fire. It marks the first brace of his career and his seventh league-wide distinction.

Gutiérrez's first goal came after Jonathan Bamba received a lofted ball from Andrew Gutman. Bamba then maneuvered into the box and passed to Gutiérrez, who took two touches before scoring past Patrick Schulte in the 13th minute. His second goal occurred in the 22nd minute when Bamba again assisted him with a through ball, allowing Gutiérrez to score while at full speed.

This achievement places Gutiérrez in the middle of the pitch for league-wide honors for the seventh time. The last time he was named to this team was nearly a year ago when he also made it to the opening Team of the Matchday of 2024 following a match against Philadelphia Union.

Chicago Fire is set to host D.C. United on March 1 at Soldier Field with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The game will be available globally on MLS Season Pass and locally via WLS 890 AM and La Que Buena 105.1 FM.
