Brian Kasal, President of Northside Republicans, expressed disapproval over DuPage County's decision to remove Henry Hyde's name from the courthouse. Kasal described the action as "a disgraceful act of political posturing" in a statement to Chicago City Wire on February 26.

"It is an utter disgrace that DuPage County Democrats stripped Henry Hyde's name from the courthouse, dismissing his lifetime of service over a single partisan issue," said Kasal. "Hyde worked across the aisle to improve infrastructure, public safety, and countless other initiatives that directly benefited his community. Yet, all of that was tossed aside by politicians more interested in scoring ideological points than honoring real leadership. This isn't just erasing a name—it's an attempt to erase Illinois history itself."

According to ABC 7, DuPage County lawmakers voted to remove Hyde’s name due to his anti-abortion stance. Hyde, who served as a Republican congressman for over three decades, was instrumental in passing the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funding for abortions. Some lawmakers argue that his views are outdated and no longer align with contemporary values, while others perceive the decision as an attempt to erase history. The resolution was passed by the DuPage County Board Chair with a 10-5 vote.

The Daily Herald reported on the February 11 hearing by the DuPage County Board regarding the removal of Hyde's name from the Wheaton courthouse. Democrats supported this measure citing his anti-abortion position, whereas Republicans opposed it, labeling it politically motivated. Hyde’s son defended his father's legacy by highlighting his contributions to gun control, infrastructure, and flood control. The vote has ignited discussions about bipartisanship within the County Board, with some members acknowledging Hyde’s enduring influence on DuPage County.

In a social media post on February 11, Democrat David Axelrod, former advisor to President Obama, commented: "A county board in IL voted to strip Rep. Henry Hyde's name from courthouse because of '80 law he wrote limiting fed funds for abortion. I disagreed w[ith] Hyde but he was an honorable man; a WW II vet who devoted his life to service. Regrettable move."

Kasal is also noted for his role as President of the Northside Republican Club since 2021. According to their website, he aims to increase Republican voter turnout and membership while communicating party positions on issues significant to Northside voters.
