Chicago Fire FC II has announced the signing of Darris Hyte, a forward from the Chicago Fire Academy, to an MLS NEXT Pro contract valid through 2028, with an option for 2029. This marks Hyte as only the second academy player to sign directly with Chicago Fire II, underscoring the development pathway from the academy to professional soccer. The financial details of the contract remain undisclosed.
“Darris has been consistently developing within the Academy and showcased his talents at MLS NEXT Cup where he was named the Most Valuable Player for his age group,” stated Alex Boler, General Manager of Chicago Fire FC. “He is an exciting winger with a lot of pace and athleticism, and we’re excited to have him in our environment where we can continue to challenge him and help him progress in his next steps as a professional.”
Hyte, who is 16 years old, joined the Chicago Fire Academy in 2021 at the U-13 level. He was part of the U-15 team that won the 2024 U-15 MLS NEXT Cup by defeating LA Galaxy 3-1 in Nashville. Hyte scored one goal in that match and was named Most Valuable Player.
“It is exciting to see another player from the Chicago Fire Academy continue through the Fire’s player pathway from the Academy level to the professional level,” commented Gregg Broughton, Sporting Director of Chicago Fire FC. “The addition of Darris further demonstrates the Fire’s commitment to developing world-class players who represent their city and have the potential to reach the highest level.”
Internationally, Hyte has played for various U.S. Men’s Youth National Teams at different age levels. Recently, he participated in a training camp with U-16 MYNT in Fayetteville.
