Chicago Fire FC II has signed Colombian midfielder Jhoiner Montiel to an MLS NEXT Pro contract, which will run through 2026. The financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to continue the Fire tradition of identifying strong players from Colombia through our scout, Andi Werz," stated Gregg Broughton, Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director. "Jhoiner’s decision to continue his development with Chicago Fire II is a testament to the Club’s commitment to being a world-class organization at every level."
The 18-year-old Montiel arrives from Internacional F.C. de Palmira, a second division team in Colombia. He made his professional debut with them on April 30, 2024, in a match where they defeated Atlético FC Cali 3-0.
"Jhoiner is a special talent who is at a very good age to take this next step in his career and continue his development within our professional environment," said Alex Boler, General Manager of Chicago Fire II. "As a left-footed central midfielder, he has some qualities that are hard to find in such a young player and we are excited to welcome him to Chicago."
Before joining Internacional F.C., Montiel was part of the Belén La Nubia – Arco Zaragoza academy in Medellín. There he excelled by winning the Baby Fútbol national youth tournament in 2020 and securing the golden boot award with seven goals.
Montiel's signing marks another addition for Chicago Fire FC II as they build their squad for future competitions.
