Chicago Fire FC II faced a challenging start to their 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season, suffering a 4-1 defeat against Huntsville City FC at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The match marked the season opener for both teams.

The first goal of the match came from former Chicago Fire II midfielder Christian Koffi, who capitalized on an errant back pass in the 15th minute. Koffi's right-footed shot beat goalkeeper Patrick Los at the near post, giving Huntsville City FC an early lead.

Chicago Fire FC II quickly responded in the 22nd minute. Claudio Cassano led an attack down the left wing and fired a shot that was blocked by a defender. Trip Fleming was well-positioned to collect the rebound and score Chicago's first goal of the season.

Huntsville regained control with a penalty kick in the 35th minute after Ethan O’Brien was fouled in the box. Koffi successfully converted the penalty, restoring Huntsville's lead.

Koffi continued to be a key player for Huntsville, assisting in another goal just before halftime. His cross into the box resulted in an own goal by Justin Reynolds, putting Huntsville ahead 3-1 at the break.

In the second half, Chicago struggled to create scoring opportunities as Huntsville focused on defense. Gunnar Studenhofft sealed Huntsville's victory with a goal from a counter-attack in the 86th minute.

"Trip Fleming recorded the first goal of 2025 and his second goal overall for Chicago," noted team communications. Meanwhile, "former Fire II midfielder Christian Koffi opened the season with a brace for the visitors."

The match saw several disciplinary actions: Véliz received a yellow card for Huntsville early on, while Osorio was ejected following two yellow cards for Chicago.
