FOIA Request to Illinois Secretary of State Regarding State Contracts on March 13, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in government, Chicago City Wire has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Illinois Secretary of State. Our request seeks comprehensive documentation and details concerning the fulfillment of contractual obligations for all contracts executed or modified between state agencies and their vendors during the month of March in the 2023 fiscal year.

Specifically, we are requesting records that verify the scope of work performed, deliverables completed, and any reports or evaluations related to these contracts. Access to these public records is crucial for us as media professionals to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.

In line with our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver, given our status as members of the media. Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
