Chicago Fire FC has announced the signing of defender Diego Konincks from Chicago Fire FC II on a short-term agreement. The 24-year-old will be available for the team's MLS regular season match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at BC Place.

Konincks participated in the second leg of Chicago Fire's preseason camp, playing against teams such as LAFC, Portland Timbers, and San Jose Earthquakes during the Coachella Valley Invitational. He also played in a closed-door scrimmage against Las Vegas Lights FC to conclude the preseason.

The Dutch player, known for his versatility, was named captain of Chicago Fire II for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro regular season. He has completed 90 minutes in both matches this year. In 2024, he started all 24 matches he played in MLS NEXT Pro and scored twice as a centerback. Additionally, Konincks played full matches in three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup games and was called up for four Short-Term Agreements with Chicago Fire last year.

This marks Konincks' first short-term agreement of the 2025 regular season. According to MLS rules, clubs can sign players from their affiliates to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements each season, totaling up to 16 days. A player can be included on up to four MLS regular season match rosters but may appear in no more than two league matches per season.
