The Chicago Hounds announced that rookie tighthead prop Alexander Hernandez will be on loan to the Carolina Anthem for four weeks during the 2025 Major League Rugby season.

Hernandez was originally drafted in the third round of the 2024 Major League Rugby collegiate draft, securing the 34th overall pick. He previously excelled at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis and at Marian University, where he played rugby for five years before entering the draft.

Standing at 6-2 and weighing 270 pounds, Hernandez attracted the attention of Will Magie, Director of Player Operations for the Hounds. Following his draft, Hernandez played for the Hounds’ Academy team in the fall, where his performance earned him a Major League Rugby contract for the 2025 season.

The loan term could be extended if needed. In a similar move last season, the Hounds loaned Michael Hand II to the Miami Sharks. Hand has since returned and has started three games for Chicago in the current season.

The Hounds are set to face the Carolina Anthem in Week 15, with the match scheduled for Saturday, May 24th at 6:00 PM CT.
