FOIA Request to Northeastern Illinois University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Northeastern Illinois University. Our inquiry seeks detailed information about the presence and support of Chinese National students at the university.

The request specifically asks for:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If such information is protected, we have requested the total number of these students and a breakdown by department.

2. Details regarding scholarships awarded to current Chinese National students, including the amount received and the source of each scholarship.

3. A list of recipients of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, unless this information is already covered in the previous request.

4. Policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect its Intellectual Property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of Chicago City Wire and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency within governmental institutions. As members of the media, we emphasize our role in holding public institutions accountable and believe that access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.

We have also requested a fee waiver based on our status as media professionals engaged in gathering and reporting news for public dissemination.
