Decorative fencing and a performance pavilion are proposed additions to the planned Emil Biorn Neighborhood Garden in Logan Square. The enhancements would be funded by $66,000 from the City, as proposed by Mayor Brandon Johnson to the City Council.
The project, located at 2616 N. Albany Ave., is part of an initiative by Logan Square Preservation. It will feature walking paths, seating areas, and public art that honors the neighborhood's immigrant communities.
The property was donated by Phil Hehn, a longtime resident of Logan Square. It previously served as the home of Emil Biorn, a Norwegian immigrant known for his work as an artist and musician.
Funding for this project would come from the City's Open Space Impact Fee program. This program uses fees collected from residential construction projects to mitigate the effects of new residents on public open spaces in community areas.
