Chicago Fire FC II secured an extra point in the standings after a 2-2 draw against New England Revolution II, followed by a shootout win at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The match took place on August 31, 2025.
The scoring began in the 22nd minute when Chase Nagle, a forward from the Chicago Fire Academy, netted his first MLS NEXT Pro goal. Homegrown midfielder Robert Turdean also made history as the youngest player to appear for Chicago Fire FC II. Swiss winger Damian Nigg entered the game at halftime for his MLS NEXT Pro debut.
Nagle’s goal resulted from an exchange with Jhoiner Montiel at the top of the box. After passing to Montiel and continuing his run behind the defense, Nagle received a return pass and finished past the New England goalkeeper.
New England responded with goals from Dias in the 33rd minute and Hutchinson in the 38th minute. In the second half, a foul inside New England’s penalty area led referee Joe Surgan to award Chicago a penalty kick in the 59th minute. Trip Fleming converted to level the score.
Chicago’s goalkeeper Bryan Dowd recorded five saves during regular play and stopped two attempts during the penalty shootout, contributing to Chicago’s position in a three-way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference.
In penalties, New England missed or had saved three out of four attempts, while all three Chicago shooters scored.
The next match for Chicago Fire FC II is scheduled for September 10 against FC Cincinnati 2 at SeatGeek Stadium. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT. Admission is free and fans can watch live on MLSNEXTPro.com.
