Chicago Fire FC II forward Jason Shokalook has been named a finalist for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Most Valuable Player Award, according to an announcement from Chicago Fire FC II and MLS NEXT Pro. The award is determined by votes from Head Coaches, Chief Soccer Officers at MLS NEXT Pro clubs, as well as league content and broadcast teams.
North Texas SC’s Sam Sarver was selected as the MVP for this season, while Marcos Dias of New England Revolution II was also among the finalists.
Shokalook earned recognition earlier in the year by winning the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot after scoring 20 goals in 22 matches. This achievement follows David Poreba’s Golden Boot win in 2024 with 18 goals, making Chicago Fire II the first club in MLS NEXT Pro history to have back-to-back Golden Boot winners.
He was also named Player of Matchweek 20 after scoring four goals during a 9-2 victory against New York Red Bulls II and later received Player of the Month honors for September. Shokalook made his Major League Soccer debut on June 7 at Audi Field in a match where Chicago Fire defeated D.C. United 7-1. He recorded his first MLS assist during stoppage time in that game.
Originally from Erie, Pennsylvania, Shokalook joined Chicago Fire II in February 2024 after being chosen with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. During his college career at the University of Akron, he was voted the 2023 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, leading his team with 14 goals and five assists over 17 appearances. In total, he played in 59 matches (41 starts) at Akron, recording 26 goals and providing 17 assists.
