The Chicago Contrarian announced on X that the Sun-Times is publishing a mapping system using public photos to track ICE agents in Chicago.

According to a post published by the Chicago Contrarian on X, the Chicago Sun-Times used publicly submitted photographs to develop a digital mapping system identifying Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating within Chicago. The post pointed out this effort and said that the media outlet had "stooped to a new level" and was now "a weapon targeting ICE agents." The Chicago Contrarian said that this system could endanger federal officers by publicizing their locations.

As of early September 2025, the Trump administration has announced "Operation Midway Blitz," a ramped-up immigration enforcement campaign in Chicago. The plan involves deploying more than 200 federal agents, some coming from Los Angeles, to conduct raids and arrests in the Chicago area. Local officials and community groups have expressed concern over possible National Guard involvement and federal agents operating from Naval Station Great Lakes.

Federal agents, including ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), have reportedly been training at Naval Station Great Lakes near Chicago. The training includes crowd control tactics with shields, early morning deployment drills, and flash-bang grenades. Approximately 30 agents in some reports have already arrived, and the base has been used to host unmarked vehicles sent for operations.

The Chicago Contrarian is a media outlet based in Chicago known for its right-leaning commentary, particularly on issues of immigration, law enforcement, and what it perceives as overreach by federal agencies.
