CDOT Seeks Public Input to Help Shape Future of Chicago’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) today announced the start of public outreach efforts to help shape the City of Chicago’s future investments in Electric Vehicles (EV) and charging infrastructure. To support the City of Chicago’s Climate Action Plan goals to reduce transportation carbon emissions and advance environmental justice, CDOT is developing a framework plan to equitably expand EV access, services, and charging infrastructure. As part of this planning process, CDOT is launching a survey to better understand the level of knowledge residents have about EVs and e-mobility devices like electric bikes and scooters, their mobility needs, and how those factors will impact EV charging demand over the next decade.

New Divvy Stations and Bikes Coming to Chicago as Part of Continued Bikeshare Expansion
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Lyft, the operator of the Divvy bikeshare system, today joined 31st Ward Alderman Felix Cardona Jr. and Belmont Cragin community leaders to cut the ribbon on a new Divvy station and celebrate the first of hundreds of new stations that will be installed in Chicago over the next couple years. Earlier this year, Divvy expanded its service area to all 50 wards and today’s launch of new stations will continue to increase bikeshare access, particularly on the Northwest, Southwest, Far South Sides. Divvy is also in the process of adding nearly 3,000 new classic bikes to the fleet to ensure users have a healthy balance of ebikes and classic pedal bikes.

City Council Approves EV Charging Ordinance to Continue Support for Electric Vehicles in Chicago
On September 15, City Council approved an ordinance that will integrate expanded statewide requirements for electric vehicle (“EV”) readiness in new residential buildings with Chicago’s existing requirements for EV readiness in multifamily and commercial buildings. The expanded requirements will apply to building permits applied for on or after November 1, 2023.
