City Rock issued the following announcement on May 9.
Registration is open now for four weekly programs offered on Monday and Tuesday afternoons this summer from June 4 to July 10 at the Downtown Library, 401 19th Street.
Carle's Creators art program for grades K-3, provides hands-on art projects inspired by the children's picture book illustrators they already love, including Eric Carle, I-spy, and Dr. Seuss. Carle's Creators is offered on Mondays, June 4 to July 9, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.
STEAM-AZING Kids for grades K-6, provides hands on learning in science, technology, engineering, art and math on Mondays, June 4 to July 9, from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Projects range from an Absolute Science presentation to Figge Presents art projects, and a Dissection Lab for Tweens to 4th of July science and building a marble run course.
Picasso Rocks Art Club is for kids going into 3rd through 8th grades, and is offered from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesdays, June 5 to July 10. Art instructor Gloria Burlingame discusses the many styles of Pablo Picasso's guitar paintings, and then helps kids rock their art skills in watercolors, oil pastels, and colored pencils. Summer art is made possible by a the Geifman Memorial for art and drama of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.
Math Rocks Summer Math Club is for children in grades 2 and up, and is offered from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm, also on Tuesdays, June 5 to July 10. Math tutor Elizabeth Russell offers fun, hands-on projects that combine stories and math, because math really does rock when you know how it works. Projects include Cheese-it Graphics, Platonic Solids, Mathical Notes, Baseball Math, Mancala, and more.

The events are offered in conjunction with the Libraries Rock! Summer Reading Challenge, available June 1 to July 21 online and at all Rock Island Libraries. Registration in the reading challenge is not required to attend any of the more than 95 free events offered this summer.
