Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago issued the following announcement on April 3.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® for excellence in nursing services has once again honored Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago with Magnet® designation. Lurie Children’s is one of less than five percent of all hospitals to have received Magnet® recognition five times. The hospital is the first hospital in Illinois and the first free-standing pediatric hospital in the nation to achieve five designations.
“This fifth Magnet® designation confirms our nurses’ commitment to our patients and our families. They continually provide unwavering, high quality care that is transformational for the families we serve,” said Brian M. Stahulak, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President & Chief Nursing Officer.
Lurie Children’s received its first Magnet® recognition in 2001 and since then the application process has become more rigorous.
According to the ANCC, the leading nursing credentialing organization in the United States, Magnet® designation is widely accepted as the gold standard of patient care, which recognizes excellence and professionalism in nursing. ANCC distinguishes an outstanding environment for professional nursing practice which includes: a strong nursing governance structure, innovation and nursing research, inter-disciplinary collaboration and engaged nursing professionals.
Applicants undergo an extensive evaluation, and members who achieve Magnet® status must continue to maintain the highest standards of their profession. Research shows that hospitals with Magnet® status are more effective at attracting and keeping quality nurses.
