Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has announced the launch of the 2024-25 preschool application, encouraging families, caregivers, and community organizations to participate in upcoming webinars to learn more about the program.

The application for CPS's free full-day preschool program for four-year-olds and half-day preschool program for three-year-olds opened on April 9. Families can apply through the Chicago Early Learning website and application portal. The initiative aims to improve educational and social outcomes for all children, particularly those with the greatest needs.

CPS CEO Pedro Martinez expressed enthusiasm about the program, stating, "We are excited to welcome children across the city to apply for our free high-quality preschool programs." Martinez emphasized the importance of families being aware of their preschool options to kickstart their children's educational journey.

The District has been expanding early childhood learning opportunities in under-resourced neighborhoods as part of a city-wide initiative with the Department of Family Support and Services. This effort ensures that every four-year-old in each of Chicago's 77 communities has access to high-quality preschool programming.

Leslie Mckinily, Chief of Early Childhood Education, highlighted the impact of CPS Pre-K classrooms, describing them as "joyful learning environments that set a strong foundation for future success in school and ignite a lifelong passion for learning." McKinily encouraged families to explore schools in their neighborhood using the Chicago Early Learning website.

CPS preschool programs adhere to federal, state, and local education standards, with schools continuously striving for quality improvement. The programs are evaluated and awarded a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Circle of Quality based on independent reviews. An impressive 88% of CPS preschools meet the Gold Circle of Quality or the highest standards in key areas.

To further engage families, CPS hosted webinars in March that were attended by over 600 families and caregivers. Additional webinars in collaboration with the Chicago Department of Public Health are scheduled for later in April and early May.

Chicago Public Schools remains committed to providing high-quality education to all students, from preschool to high school. The District's dedication to diverse educational offerings and student success is evident in its 635 schools serving over 322,000 students representing 182 home languages.
