The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) announced that non-profit organizations across Illinois have the opportunity to apply for federal safety and security grants. The grants aim to enhance safety measures and increase security for eligible organizations. Alicia Tate-Nadeau, Director of IEMA-OHS, highlighted the significance of these grant opportunities, stating, "Organizations across Illinois the chance to implement enhanced safety measures to increase safety and security."
One of the grant programs, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Urban Area Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP-UASI), will provide funds to eligible 501c (3) organizations at high risk of a potential terrorist attack in designated urban areas. Cook County is the designated urban area for Illinois. The second program, the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Statewide Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP-S), will provide funds to eligible organizations outside of Cook County deemed at high risk of a potential terrorist attack.
Claire Moravec, Deputy Director of IEMA-OHS, emphasized the agency's commitment to investing in prevention and education programs, stating, "Investing in prevention provides for a safer future for all Illinoisans."
The grants, administered by IEMA-OHS as the State Administrative Agency, will provide up to $150,000 per site for eligible non-profit organizations. Organizations with multiple sites may apply for up to $150,000 per site, for a maximum of $450,000 per sub-applicant, per funding stream. The grants must be used for target-hardening activities, such as security equipment purchase or installation and contracted security personnel.
Applicants can visit the IEMA-OHS website to download the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and learn more about the application process. Additional information about the grant programs can be found on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.
