Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson welcomed Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and his delegation to the City of Chicago today. Their meeting at City Hall, alongside Special Representative for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker, focused on Chicago’s Ukrainian community, one of the largest in the United States.

During the meeting, Mayor Johnson emphasized the city's unwavering support for Ukraine, particularly noting the tens of thousands of displaced Ukrainians who have found refuge in Chicago since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Mayor Johnson stated, "Chicago has a vibrant and supportive Ukrainian community, and we stand firmly in solidarity with Ukraine."

The Mayor also highlighted the strong ties between Chicago and Kyiv through their sister city relationship, showcasing the commitment to collaboration and support, both during the current challenging times and throughout the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Ukraine.
