Chicago Fire FC has announced the acquisition of defender Omar González as a free agent. The contract will last until the 2025 MLS season, with an option for 2026.

González, aged 36, joins Chicago after participating in 475 matches across various North American competitions including Major League Soccer and Liga MX. He has won the MLS Cup three times and the MLS Supporters' Shield twice with LA Galaxy. Additionally, he claimed a Liga MX championship and a Concacaf Champions League title with CF Pachuca.

His professional career began with LA Galaxy after being selected third overall in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft. During his time there, González was named Rookie of the Year in 2009 and helped lead the team to seven MLS Playoff appearances. In December 2015, he joined CF Pachuca and assisted in scoring during his debut against Club Tijuana on January 8, 2016. González returned to Major League Soccer in June 2019 with Toronto FC and later played for New England Revolution (2022-23) and FC Dallas (2024).

Internationally, González earned 52 caps with the United States Men's National Team, including three appearances at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014. He also won Concacaf Gold Cups in 2013 and 2017 with the national team.

The transaction was announced on February 7, 2025: Chicago Fire FC acquires free agent defender Omar González through 2025 with an option for extension to 2026.
