Chicago Fire FC II has been recognized as the MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchweek 8. The announcement came after their decisive 5-1 victory over Orlando City B on May 2 at Flames Field in Chicago.
The match saw Chicago Fire II conceding an initial goal in the 29th minute. However, they responded with five unanswered goals from different players. Right back Peter Soudan equalized in the 37th minute, followed by Jason Shokalook scoring the game-winner five minutes later. Additional goals were scored by defenders Jean-Alpha Diouf and Justin Reynolds, along with forward Dean Boltz, sealing a comprehensive win for Chicago Fire II in their first home game at Flames Field.
This is the first time that Chicago Fire II has received a weekly honor during the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season. In contrast, the previous season saw individual accolades for team members, including David Poreba receiving the MLS NEXT Pro Most Valuable Player award and Patrick Los earning two MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month awards. This also marks their first Team of the Matchweek recognition since their establishment in 2022.
