Chicago Fire FC emerged victorious against New England Revolution with a 3-1 win on Tuesday night at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island. Forwards Hugo Cuypers and Philip Zinckernagel each scored, advancing Chicago to the Quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the 16th time.

The draw for the Quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, May 22 at 8:30 a.m. CT during CBS Sports Golazo Network’s “Morning Footy.” This draw will finalize the bracket, including hosting scenarios for upcoming rounds. Further details will be provided by U.S. Soccer soon.

The game began with Chicago breaking through after half an hour of solid defense from New England. Jonathan Bamba initiated a play that resulted in a cross bouncing off a defender into the net for a 1-0 lead before halftime.

In the second half, Chicago continued to gain momentum. Substitute Brian Gutiérrez assisted Bamba in creating another opportunity, which led to Cuypers scoring after his cross hit the crossbar and landed at his feet.

Zinckernagel's introduction added more attacking prowess as he scored in the 79th minute following an assist from Maren Haile-Selassie. A late own goal by Chicago reduced their lead but did not affect their overall control of the match.

Looking ahead, Chicago Fire FC will face New York City FC at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, May 25 at 2 p.m. CT. The match will be available globally via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and locally through wlsam.com and Que Buena Fire via Uforia app.

In this fourth meeting between these teams in Open Cup history, Chicago now leads with three wins to one loss against New England Revolution. Notably, this victory ended New England’s seven-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.

Hugo Cuypers’ performance included his second goal in consecutive matches within this tournament, bringing his total goals across all competitions in 2025 to ten—matching last year's tally before June. Maren Haile-Selassie recorded his second assist of this competition during his sixth consecutive start.

Philip Zinckernagel marked his debut with an impactful goal just minutes after entering play while goalkeeper Chris Brady made three crucial saves throughout the match alongside young defender Christopher Cupps who played full-time shortly before turning seventeen.

Omari Glasgow contributed defensively over ninety minutes as Jonathan Bamba played seventy minutes contributing significantly towards both opening goals assisted by Brian Gutiérrez leading up to Cuypers' decisive strike.
