Chicago Fire loses to New York City FC at Yankee Stadium

Chicago Fire FC faced a 3-1 defeat against New York City FC on Sunday at Yankee Stadium. The loss marks Chicago's fifth of the season, leaving them with 19 points. Philip Zinckernagel scored the opening goal in the 19th minute, marking his second consecutive game with a goal.

New York City responded in the second half with Monses Bakraf equalizing in the 58th minute. Hannes Wolf gave NYC the lead in the 70th minute, and Alonso Martínez secured victory with a penalty in the 84th minute.

"Philip Zinckernagel tallied his fifth MLS goal of the season for Chicago," stated Chicago Fire FC Communications. Andrew Gutman assisted Zinckernagel's goal, continuing his form from previous matches.

Mauricio Pineda reached a milestone by playing over 10,000 minutes for Chicago Fire FC before being substituted in the first half. "Pineda became the first Homegrown player to reach the milestone with the Fire," noted Chicago Fire FC Communications.

Leonardo Barroso returned to action after nearly two months, contributing as a substitute in the second half. Key players Carlos Terán and Chase Gasper were unavailable due to injuries.

The match saw multiple disciplinary actions including red cards for Chicago’s Gutiérrez and D’Avilla. Attendance at Yankee Stadium was recorded at 18,524.

Chicago Fire will next face Orlando City SC on May 31 at Inter&Co Stadium.
