Chicago Fire FC concluded a five-game road trip with a decisive 7-1 victory over D.C. United at Audi Field in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night. Forward Tom Barlow achieved his first hat trick of the season during his initial start in 2025. Midfielder Philip Zinckernagel also contributed with a goal and an assist, marking his seventh consecutive road match with a goal contribution. Additional goals from midfielders Maren Haile-Selassie, Jonathan Bamba, and Brian Gutiérrez secured Chicago's league-leading sixth road win this season.

The match began with Chicago taking an early lead as Rominigue Kouamé set up Jonathan Dean to assist Haile-Selassie's opening goal. Chicago capitalized on counter-attacks throughout the game, with Barlow scoring twice before halftime. Zinckernagel and Gutman collaborated for another goal in the second half.

D.C. United managed to score through Dominique Badji at the hour mark but failed to mount a comeback as Barlow completed his hat trick shortly after. In stoppage time, Jason Shokalook assisted Gutiérrez's final goal of the match.

Chicago Fire FC will next face Nashville SC at Soldier Field on June 14th as part of a doubleheader event co-hosted with Chicago Stars FC.

"Tom Barlow scored for the first time this season on his way to recording the first hat trick of his Major League Soccer career," noted team communications. This marked Barlow's first multi-goal performance since September 27, 2020.

The victory tied Chicago Fire FC's club record for goals scored in a single match, matching their previous high from July 4, 2001.
