Chicago Fire FC secured a place in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs after defeating Inter Miami CF 5-3 at Chase Stadium on Tuesday night. This marks the club’s first postseason appearance since 2017 and its 14th overall since joining Major League Soccer in 1998.

The match saw five different Chicago players score, including Homegrown defender Justin Reynolds, who netted his first career goal for the team. Reynolds’ goal, which came in the 80th minute, proved to be the game-winner and clinched the playoff berth for Chicago.

Chicago opened the scoring early when Dje D’Avilla headed in a corner kick from Maren Haile-Selassie in the 11th minute. Jonathan Dean doubled the lead in the 31st minute following an assist from Rominigue Kouamé. Inter Miami responded with a goal from Tomás Avilés, but Kouamé restored Chicago’s two-goal advantage before halftime.

In the second half, Miami’s Luis Suárez scored twice to level the match. However, late goals from Reynolds and Brian Gutiérrez secured victory for Chicago.

Following this win, Chicago set a new club record with nine road victories in a single season, surpassing their previous record of eight away wins set in 1999. The team also reached a milestone by scoring 41 goals on the road during this campaign—the highest total in club history—and became just the fifth team in league history to score at least 35 goals away from home in one season.

Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter achieved his 15th regular-season win with Chicago this year. This is his third time reaching that mark as a coach; both prior instances led to Eastern Conference Finals appearances.

Chicago will play its final home match of the regular season against Toronto FC on Saturday, October 4 at Soldier Field. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. CT kickoff and will be available globally via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV as well as local radio broadcasts.
