Chicago Fire FC was eliminated from the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs after a 3-0 defeat to the Philadelphia Union at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, on Saturday. This match marked Chicago’s first playoff appearance since 2017 and concluded their postseason run in the Round One Best-of-3 series against the Supporters’ Shield champions.

The game saw Philadelphia take an early lead with forward Tai Baribo scoring twice within the first 16 minutes. Bruno Damiani added a third goal for Philadelphia in the 35th minute. Despite outshooting the Union nine to seven, Chicago was unable to find the net. Philadelphia goalkeeper Andre Blake made two saves and secured his fourth clean sheet of this postseason.

Midfielder Brian Gutiérrez started his second match of these playoffs and became the Homegrown player with the most playoff minutes in club history. Defender Jack Elliott played his 14th career postseason match, completing all 90 minutes for a third consecutive time. He had previously scored against his former team on October 26 at Subaru Park.

Unavailable for Chicago were goalkeeper Chris Brady, defenders Leonardo Barroso and Viktor Radojević, as well as midfielders André Franco (all due to lower body injuries) and Chris Mueller (not injury-related).

The official attendance was reported as 17,431. The match referee was Jon Freemon.

Chicago concludes its fourteenth postseason campaign with an all-time playoff record of 22 wins, 18 losses, and seven draws. In this year’s playoffs, Chicago scored five goals—their highest tally since scoring seven in 2003.
