The Chicago Hounds have extended the contract of their 2025 team captain, Lucas Rumball, for one more year. The announcement was made on Thursday.

Rumball, who has twice been named to the All-MLR team and was a Second-Team honoree in 2025, joined the Hounds before the 2024 season after five years with the Toronto Arrows. He is also captain of the Canadian national team.

During his time with Chicago, Rumball has started in 20 out of 28 matches and set career-highs for appearances (16) and starts (15) during the 2025 season, his first as captain. He finished that season with 152 carries for a total of 336 meters and beat 22 defenders while carrying the ball. Rumball also made double-digit tackles in nine of his 16 games, including a standout performance with 25 tackles in the Eastern Conference Final.

This past season, he became the first player in league history to surpass 1,000 tackles. Over his career, Rumball has made 1,074 tackles from 1,175 attempts—a tackle success rate of 91%—and recorded 26 dominant tackles. He is recognized for his work at breakdowns, winning ten turnovers last year and over sixty throughout his Major League Rugby career.

His overall statistics include 82 caps with 71 starts and nearly 7,500 minutes played. Rumball has scored seven tries for a total of thirty-five points on 578 carries covering more than two thousand meters. He is credited with beating eighty-six defenders and making two clean line breaks this past season. In 2021, he earned First-Team All-MLR honors after making a career-best of 228 tackles from just 247 attempts—a success rate of ninety-two percent.
