A Rockford man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. Tyrone Smith, 37, admitted guilt earlier this year to the charge. As a felon, Smith was barred by federal law from possessing firearms. He confessed that in September 2022, while in Rockford, he had a handgun loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.
