Chicago Classical Academy to hold hearing with charter school commission

Academy3

Chicago Classical Academy will hold a public hearing with the Illinois State Charter School Commission Feb. 20 at Ping Tom Memorial Park.

The two-hour hearing begins at 5 p.m. at the Leonard M. Louie Fieldhouse, with registration for those interested in speaking starting an hour earlier. Speakers will be called in the order they sign up.

The gathering is part of Chicago Classical’s appeal to the State Charter School Commission for the approval of its charter application.

On Dec. 6, the Chicago Board of Education formally voted not to approve the application. Chicago Classical Academy has submitted an appeal, and a final vote is scheduled to take place March 20.

Those planning to attend the Tom Memorial Park event are encouraged to RSVP, as well as share news of the event with friends, family and neighbors.

“Your presence is important; we need your voice and your help,” the academy wrote on its Facebook page.

Located in the South Loop, Chicago Classical Academy is a proposed K-12, open-enrollment classical charter school dedicated to a “content-focused curriculum” steeped in the arts, according to the school.
