Chicago Fire FC and Avocados from Peru, in collaboration with Mariano’s, announced the winners of the Guacamole Challenge on August 8, 2024. The event crowned Chicago Fire Defender Justin Reynolds and FOX 32 “Good Day Chicago” Co-Anchor Natalie Bomke as champions.

The Guacamole Challenge took place at the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) following a Club-wide volunteer day. Five teams composed of Chicago Fire First Team Players and local media members competed to create the most unique and flavorful guacamole recipe. As part of the challenge, Avocados From Peru donated 100,000 avocados to GCFD to support local food banks and shelters under their mission to “Fight Hunger with Nutrition.”

Reynolds and Bomke competed against four other pairs: Fire Goalkeeper Chris Brady with WGN Morning News Reporter Ana Belaval; Defender Chase Gasper with 94.7 WLS-AM Radio Host Cara Carriveau; Defender Jonathan Dean with On Tap Sports Soccer Reporter Joe Chatz; and Midfielder Fabian Herbers with media personality Candace Jordan. Reynolds and Bomke won the Silver Avocado Trophy after impressing judges in both preliminary and final rounds.

In conjunction with this event, Chicago Fire FC and Avocados From Peru launched the #AvoFire Ultimate Soccer Sweepstakes. Fans have a chance to win various prizes including VIP experiences, a Mariano’s shopping spree, and a co-branded 2024 Tesla Model Y wrapped in themed decals. Entries can be made via chicagofirefc.com/avocados or at local Mariano’s markets using a QR code displayed on the AVO Fire Co-branded Vehicle.

The sweepstakes will run until September 16, 2024, National Guacamole Day. Three semifinalists will be randomly selected, with the winner determined by a halftime competition during the match against Toronto FC on September 28, 2024.

Chicago Fire will resume League play on August 24 against New York City FC at Citi Field in Queens, New York. The match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass and streamed locally in English on wlsam.com while also being transmitted in Spanish.

The team will return home for their highly anticipated match against Inter Miami CF at Soldier Field on August 31. This game begins at 7:30 p.m., broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass and locally in English on WLS 890 AM as well as WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.
