Sebastian Pelzer has been appointed as the Chief Sports Officer of FC Lugano, following his tenure as the Technical Director for Chicago Fire FC over the past five seasons. The announcement was made by Chicago Fire FC on November 23, 2024.

Pelzer expressed gratitude for his time with Chicago Fire, stating, "I’m incredibly grateful for my time with the Chicago Fire. I truly appreciate the support that I’ve received from Joe Mansueto, Georg Heitz, the staff, players, and fans over the past five years." He also conveyed excitement about his new role at FC Lugano and hopes to build on the club's successes.

Chicago Fire FC Owner and Chairman Joe Mansueto acknowledged Pelzer's contributions: “I’d like to thank Sebastian for his hard work and contributions to the Fire.” Mansueto highlighted Pelzer’s impact on developing FC Lugano’s roster as crucial to their achievements and looked forward to continued growth under his leadership.

Pelzer joined Chicago Fire on December 28, 2019. His responsibilities included overseeing global scouting, recruitment strategy, player development efforts, and managing relations between Chicago Fire and FC Lugano. During his time in Chicago, he focused on enhancing player recruitment and promoting talent from the academy. Under his guidance, ten Homegrown Players were signed and three players transferred to top-five leagues. Notably, transfers involving Jhon Durán and Gaga Slonina are among MLS history's most significant outgoing moves.

Before joining Chicago Fire, Pelzer had an extensive playing career in Germany and England across seven clubs over 16 years. He served as captain for Dynamo Dresden and F.C. Hansa Rostock during seven seasons combined. Additionally, Pelzer holds a UEFA B coaching license and was part of the German Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) players’ council for five years.
