The Chicago Sky have re-signed Courtney Vandersloot, a veteran guard and key figure in the franchise's history. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed, as per team policy.
“Courtney is a generational talent,” stated Chicago Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca. “She is a proven winner, champion, leader and among the league’s all-time great point guards. It has been very special watching Courtney build her legacy in this league and with this organization. We cannot wait for her to return home to where her career started and she ultimately belongs.”
Vandersloot expressed enthusiasm about her return: “Chicago is where it all started for me—it’s home, it’s family, and it’s a point guard’s dream. The city, the fans, and the culture here have helped to shape the person I am today. I’m eager to embrace this next chapter, take on the challenge of leading and learning from a really talented young team, and bring my experience back to the place that means so much to me.”
Vandersloot returns after helping Chicago secure their first WNBA Championship in 2021 and spending two seasons with New York Liberty. During her time with New York, she averaged 8.7 points and 6.6 assists per game, earned an All-Star selection in 2023, and contributed to winning a WNBA Championship in 2024.
Selected third overall in the 2011 WNBA Draft out of Gonzaga by Chicago Sky, Vandersloot led the league in total assists five times between 2015 and 2021. She holds multiple records within the franchise including second place on the all-time career assists list with 2,850 assists.
Her performance across the 2019-2020 seasons included averages of 12.2 points and 9.4 assists while shooting nearly 47% from the field. Vandersloot was consistently recognized among MVP candidates during these years.
During her collegiate years at Gonzaga University from 2007-11, she led national statistics in assists per game for two consecutive seasons and held significant scoring achievements within her conference.
Vandersloot also has experience playing internationally with teams such as UMMC Ekaterinburg in Russia and Fenerbahçe in Turkey. Domestically, she is currently participating in Miami's Unrivaled league.
Head Coach Tyler Marsh commented on Vandersloot's return: “Today is a huge day for the Chicago Sky,” he said. “Courtney is an exceptional competitor and the ultimate floor general who brings veteran leadership and playmaking ability to the Sky."
The Chicago Sky will begin their regular season against Indiana Fever on May 17 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
