Mike Quigley, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 5th district since 2009, has taken to social media to express his concerns regarding national security and international politics. In his tweets, Quigley raises issues related to Elon Musk's influence over sensitive information and critiques actions by former President Donald Trump concerning the Middle East.
On February 5, 2025, Quigley voiced his concern about Elon Musk's influence on national security matters. He stated that "Musk’s unfettered access to our nation’s most sensitive information is appalling and his outweighed influence over this administration must be checked." He called on his colleagues in Congress to oppose what he termed as a "power grab" and emphasized the need for congressional authority.
In another tweet posted later that day, Quigley commented on former President Trump's intentions in Gaza. He remarked that "Trump is driven by the prospect of real estate development in Gaza," suggesting that such motivations might lead him to deploy U.S. troops there. Quigley further criticized both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not seeking a lasting peace, highlighting the importance of returning Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
Additionally, Quigley expressed alarm at Trump's statements during a joint press conference about taking control of Gaza. He asserted that "This is a call for ethnic cleansing," and questioned whether Trump or Netanyahu have genuine interests in ending the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
