“Violent crime is up in in aggregate terms, not as a percentage of ridership either, just in aggregate terms. And the ridership, as you may surmise, is down considerably,” Am 560’s Chicago’s Morning Answer host Dan Proft said.

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Program explained that crime prevention is an art, explaining there any many ways to address reducing crime.

“You had two murders back in 2019 and nine murders in 2022 – that’s, of course, the scary one," Proft said. "But the hard part to understand is how do you have such a collapse where the systems are empty most of the time? And maybe that’s an argument for why you have more crime, I don’t know. But the system is empty a lot of the time, and yet you had even more violent crimes than you did in 2019. And it just speaks to the whole the whole problem we’ve talked about. You’ve covered it very well with Matt Rosenberg the guy covering this and you know, this this crime in Chicago, you know, we’ve led the nation in murders for 11 straight years. I didn’t know that until we did that report. 11 straight years where we’re number one, you know, we have five times the murder rate of New York City. Five times! When you look at it on a per capita basis, you know, we’ve got a 5% arrest rate for all these major crimes. It’s a mess and the sad part is I don’t see any of that changing with this election overall.”

Wirepoints Ted Dabrowski discussed the group’s reporting.“You have to understand that on the CTA and the metro and everything, right. We’ve had this massive collapse of ridership, you know, 50% down,” Dabrowski said.“We looked at the ridership to look at the mileage people riding is massively down and yet violent crimes were up. If you go back to 2019, you had about, you know, again, it’s 900 violent crimes and you have another 14% increase in 2022. And this is after Lightfoot’s initiatives. They’ve done a beat down – I think you’ve covered it on the CTA chief.”

Stanford University’s Institute for Economic Policy Research noted that providing access to mental health care can reduce crime.

Despite Chicago Transit Authority's anti-crime initiatives, violent crime on the city's public transit system increased in 2022 compared to 2019, even though ridership declined by 46%.

Lopez criticizes the city's leadership for not doing enough to combat crime and suggests that more needs to be done to support law enforcement and address the root causes of violence in Chicago.

Joan McCarthy, who recently attended speech Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, told WTTW she is disappointed in the records of Democrat leaders including Governor J.B. Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx. “We’ve got to support law and order. Our society, if we don’t have law and order, then we’re total chaos,” McCarthy, whose brother is a Chicago police officer, told WTTW. “I totally back the blue and I think that police have been getting kind of a raw deal in Illinois, and I came to support and to hear what another governor from another state is going.”

WTTW reported the Chicago Police Department had officers in far-right extremist groups.
