City of Chicago officials are preparing for the return of the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle, scheduled for Sunday, March 23. The event will start at 8:30 a.m. in Grant Park and marks the beginning of the running season in Chicago. As part of the city's St. Patrick's Day celebrations, a 1-mile run is also planned for Saturday, March 22.
The main event on Sunday includes an 8K run starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 2-Mile Walk at 9:30 a.m., taking participants through downtown Chicago. After the race, runners can enjoy live music at the Post-Race Party in Grant Park.
City officials have announced several street closures to accommodate the event. Closures will begin as early as Monday, March 17, with some streets reopening on Wednesday, March 26. Specific streets affected include Balbo Dr., Columbus Dr., Jackson Blvd., and others around Grant Park and downtown.
Motorists should expect increased traffic and reroutes along the race route. "Traffic Control Aides (TCAs) will be on hand at events citywide to direct flow and traffic impacts," said city officials. Public transportation is recommended for those attending or traveling through affected areas.
Residents are encouraged to download the Chicago OEMC App for public safety information and emergency alerts related to weather conditions monitored by OEMC and race officials in collaboration with the National Weather Service.
The City emphasizes vigilance among attendees regarding suspicious activities during the event. "If You See Something Say Something" is part of a national campaign urging individuals to report anything unusual to law enforcement authorities or call 9-1-1.
